6 December 2010
Dear Esteemed Officer
Beijing City Public Security Bureau Chaoyang District Branch
My name is Karen Patterson and I am the wife of Chinese citizen, WU Yuren (DOB: 1971/10/2), who is in the Chaoyang District Criminal Detention Center waiting second session of his trial. He has not been sentenced yet.
On December 30th, 2010, his zhanzhuzheng and my visa to live in China expire, and so I am interested in having both extended so that our daughter and I can be here for the sentencing. On Dec 3rd I went to the police station near our home (Jiangtai Road, behind Jiangfu Jiayuan Beili Compound, just of of Tuofangying Road) but they would not extend Wu Yuren’s zhanzhuzheng because he is not living in the residential compound. The officer would not listen to me. However, as Wu Yuren is still in the Chaoyang district, albeit in the detention center, I believe that is sufficient grounds to extend his zhanzhuzheng, so that his wife and daughter can remain in China to witness his sentencing.
Furthermore, it would be good for both of us to be able to visit Wu Yuren in jail after he has been sentenced, as we have not had time with him at all ever since he was detained back on May 31, 2010. It is by law that the family has the right to visit the criminal in prison once they have been sentenced. How can his daughter visit him if we can’t get the visa extended?
